Tips for renting in Grenoble
Grenoble is a natural base camp for an alpine road trip by campervan or motorhome. The Route Napoléon heading south offers a historic and panoramic drive, while the Vercors and Chartreuse roads pass through breathtaking landscapes with plenty of nature parking spots.
Before setting off, get comfortable with your vehicle's dimensions. Some mountain roads are narrow with tight switchbacks. The Vercors passes in particular require careful driving with a larger vehicle.
Campervan service areas are well distributed across the French Alps, but they fill up quickly in July and August. Plan your stops in advance or travel off-season for a quieter experience. Spring and autumn offer pleasant conditions with fewer crowds on the road.
Check your vehicle's water and power autonomy before venturing into remote areas. Service stations and dump points are less frequent in the mountains than on lowland routes.
