Tips for renting in Lyon
The Rhône and Saône riverbanks are the easiest and most scenic routes for cycling in Lyon. Both paths are fully separated from car traffic and run for several kilometres through the heart of the city. Follow the Saône north towards Île Barbe for a particularly quiet and green stretch.
If you want to visit the hilltop neighbourhoods of Fourvière or Croix-Rousse, consider renting an electric-assist bike. The gradients are steep and can be exhausting on a standard bicycle. Most rental shops offer e-bikes with enough battery range for a full day of riding.
The Parc de la Tête d'Or is ideal for a relaxed family ride. Its wide, shaded lanes are car-free, and you can stop for a picnic or visit the free zoo and botanical gardens inside the park.
For longer adventures, the ViaRhôna cycle route begins in Lyon and heads south toward the Mediterranean. Ask your rental provider about one-way drop-off options if you are planning an overnight stage along the route.
